Good to know

Rice is low FODMAP and one of the most dependable starches on the diet. White, brown, basmati, jasmine and wild rice are all fine in typical servings, as are rice noodles, rice cakes and rice crackers.

Cooked rice should be cooled quickly and kept in the fridge for no more than a day or so, then reheated until piping hot. That is about food safety rather than FODMAPs, and it matters if you batch-cook.

White rice on a low FODMAP diet

  • White rice can be part of your diet during the elimination phase.
  • Low FODMAP ratings apply to typical servings. Several low FODMAP foods in one meal can add up, an effect called FODMAP stacking.
  • Watch what it comes with: sauces, seasonings and ready-made versions often add garlic, onion or honey.
