Good to know

Gluco-oligosaccharides are a prebiotic fiber added to some foods and supplements. Despite the similar name, they are a different molecule from galacto-oligosaccharides (GOS), the FODMAP group found in legumes. Our database lists them as high FODMAP, so treat products that add them with caution during elimination.

Gluco-oligosaccharides on a low FODMAP diet

  • Leave gluco-oligosaccharides out during the elimination phase, which usually lasts two to six weeks.
  • Look for a low FODMAP alternative in the same food group, or check one in our FODMAP checker.
  • High FODMAP doesn't mean forever: during reintroduction, many people find they tolerate some high FODMAP foods in smaller amounts.
